Tour Report

Spartak 78 U10s travelled deep into Fenland country to the home of Chatteris Town Youth FC in their end of season tournament campaign. They returned victorious winners of the 5 aside tournament following a quite remarkable turn of events in the group stage. Spartak started brightly winning 2-1 in their opening match against Chesterton Eagles with goals from Sammy and Hudson and a stunning double save from goalkeeper Vojta in the dying seconds. Spartak then managed a series of draws first with Estover Park (0-0), then Alconbury Blue (3-3, including a last second equaliser from Hudson) and next Wisbech St Marys (1-1). This meant that Spartak now needed a 5-0 win or better in the final group game against the hosts Chatteris to advance into the knock stage on goal difference.

What happened next will go down in the Spartak history books as they simply overran their opposition with a continuous onslaught and ended up scoring 7 goals in 10 minutes (Kaine 2, Ethan 3, Hudson & Adam) and restricted Chatteris to a solitary penalty.

There was no stopping Spartak now and they edged the 1st half of their semi-final against Shelford and Stapleford to lead 1-0. They scored 3 more goals in the 2nd half to seal their place in the final against Ramsey Colts. Spartak got stuck into their task and good goalkeeping from Vojta gave them a foothold which eventually allowed them to take the lead. A super through ball from Hudson turned defence into attack and there was unmarked Ethan who scored with a first time shot to give his team the lead. Vojta made further good saves to deny Ramsey including one fierce shot which he pushed up onto the cross bar. Into the 2nd half and now Spartak had the winds at their back and they quickly doubled their lead as Hudson picked up the ball in midfield and he composed himself before striking a well placed long range shot into the corner of the Ramsey goal. What a day for the Saffron Walden based side and it showed their strength of character and determination to play as a team and get the result they deserved , well done to the entire team for their hard work.
